Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 6

Made some progress with the staircase today but have once again run into a problem. Designing the fire animations for the torchs is proving to be more difficult than I originally expected. This may be because I have been using a different tutorial than I did with the previous animation I have designed. I have also had to alter the colour of the staircase passage to make it easier to work on. The reflective surfaces were making the work very confusing. Anyway, the only way I can handle this problem is to start over on the fire animations, using the previous tutorial but this cannot be avoided. I am also considered redoing the staircase and making into a straight rather than a spiral. Another idea would be to design an elevator, which would be a lot simpler but would affect the overall animation. The images below show my prgoress with the flaming torches and the staircase.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 5

I've continued work on the coridoor, experimenting with materials, effects and lighting, and the results are present below. I have also begun work on a stair case for the next stage in the animation, also, as shown below in the images provided.

Stage 8

Stage 9

Researching this idea has been a little more difficult as finding video clip animations for the subject have turned up little so far. All searchs turn up music videos and other random clips that don't offer any inspiration.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 4

Made some more progress with the corridoor and hall today. I hav nearly completed the basic structure of the middle animation sequence. The two doors have been created and put into place in the scene, which only leaves editing to be done on this stage of the animation. I still have to begin the hell world but I already have an idea on what to do for this and will begin next week. The image below shows stage six of the production.

Stage 6

As you can see the doors have been created and the scene is falling into place, piece by piece. I still have to learn how to create a human character or something approaching it but like i mentioned in my previous entries it is not a necessity. The goal at the moment is to finish a basic design of the production and refine it using materials and texturing in 3D studio max. As I have already learned a little on how to do this problems should kept to a minimum.

On another topic; the r'n'd part of this project has been neglected slightly and will need to be caught up as soon as possible, which is set for this weekend and possibly next week if more time is required. Also, the script for these pieces needs completing, which will be done by the end of this week.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 3

Continued work on the corridoor animation and during this time have made it longer. Still having problems editing the fire animations and there is still alot of work to be done on the walls of the structure. I also have to create the room at the end of this passage and try to create a grim reaper character to stand between the two doors in this room. The picture shows how the passage has been extended compared the pictures shown in my previous post.

Stage 5

Creating the room at the end should be relatively easy, as will the doors; the real difficult part will be creating the character. In order to do this I will have to learn how to manipulate shapes in 3DS max into the form of a person as well as how to possibly animate the character using the biped tool. Animating the character is not really neccessary and can be left out of the project all together but I still plan to attempt it all the same.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 2

Made some headway with the corridoor animation today. This involved learning how to create a fire animation using 3DS Max 8. Creating the animation itself wasn't too difficult once I found the right tutorial to guide me through the process but I now have to tailor it to the setting I am creating to give it the right effect. At the moment, the corridoor is at an early stage of development but is coming along nicely as the images below will show.

Stage 3

Stage 4

These images show how the animation os devveloping and what I am trying to achieve and create for this project. Once the corridoor is complete, I will begin work on the room with the two doors and then begin work on a character design for this stage of the animation.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 1

The idea for this is to create an animation based on the themes of heaven and hell. Essentially, the introduction will feature a coridoor leading to two doors where the person viewing will be presented with a scenario to determine whether the viewer is honest or not. One answer will take the viewer through the door leading to hell and the other will go through the door leading to heaven. The animation is based around the premise of 'what goes around, comes arounds', meaning that your actions in the scenario determine which ending you pick.

This idea is still in the early stages and not much research has been done outside of a few images found on google. My partner and I have divided the tasks accordingly; I will be developing the animation for the Hell world while my partner will be working on the Heaven World. The coridoor at the beginning will be determined later on this process.

For my part in this project I a considering putting a comedy twist on the Hell World to make it more entertaining to view but like with other aspects will be confirmed later. Below is one of the images found on google that shows the kind of setting we are trying to produce for our animation.
