Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 9

At this stage of the development I have completed editing the staircase section and added the relevant materials to the scene. This part of the development had to redone due to an error in the material editor where several sections of the scene were tied into the same material, which was the correct one. This involved having to go back a few stages and redo several hours work as another mistake that had previously gone unoticed was made apparent during the rendering process.

This error was to do with the flaming torches; the fire effect attribute in the animation had somehow been deleted at some point in the devlopment and this effected not just one the fire animations but all of them. This meant that I had to go back over the entire scene and redo them all one by one.

Also I have been able to start the next section of the animation despite the setback, which is the Hell world itself. I have finished the intial scene with fire, applied materials and the editing of the terrrain itself. I also created a door ant the start of the staircase to represent the door that was entered in the first scene. The images below display these items.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 8

At this stage, I have completed the staircase and equiped the tears with the flaming torches. I have also finished the section of the animation which signifies there's no going back from this point as well as the gate into hell at the end of the staircase. In order to do this I had use the clone tool and the material editor to give the gate and effective appearance. I also had adjust the number of keyframes in the sequence to accomodate the extra footage.

I will have to adjust the number of keyframes again to accomodate the next sequence in this stage of the animation but this will have to wait until the next sequence has been completed.

Digital Media Level 3 - Heaven and Hell, Part 7

Development of the fire animation has been the most difficult part of this project and has had to be redone more than once. I have managed to get this stage to a suitable standard but other problems have occurred also such as the spiral staircase idea. I have had to redesign the staircase entirely due to the limitations of both the camera tool and my knowledge of this program (3D studio Max). Instead of building a circular spiral staircase, I have designed a tear staircase having each flight of stairs lead down to a separate tear that in turn leads to another flight and another going all the way to bottom as shown in the images below.

Stage 16

The purpose of the staircase is to show the characters descent into to the hell world because Hell is seen as being below Heaven and Earth by most mediums. I also used the brick wall and relective black surface materials to build and eerie atmosphere, which will be complimented by the background music I intend to include.
